The North:
19 years ago St. Paul, MN flyers incorporated the DJ name "D-Mystery." As the man on the l's & 2's. After High School (87) our hero graduated from Brown Institute (89) receiving an Associates Degree in Radio & Television Communications.
From house parties, to fundraisers, and a slew of mobile events. Elevation took place not only musically but also in the DJ's name. While spinning @a suburban teen club. DJ Doug D was born!
Offered the chance to present a demo tape to "Prince" and the owner of The Glam Slam....
One month later DJ Doug D was the opening resident DJ. Programming everything from
Jazz, Dance, Hip-Hop, House, Funk, Alternative, Reggae and Blues. Opening for
International groups like: Fishbone, George Clinton, KRS-One, Miles Davis (r.i.p.), Toni
Tony Tone, Digital Underground, Chaka Khan, Sheila E and the list goes on.
Rockin Promo Parties for Paisley Park Records landed Doug D in London, Paris, and the opening of The Glam Slam in Yokohama, Japan. Followed by guest appearances around the US.
Reported play list for Billboard & CVC magazines (91-94). Progressed from head DJ to Booking Agent/Talent Scout for the prominent Minneapolis Club... "The Quest" until moving in 96.
The South:
Charlotte, NC became home in the fall of 96. Rather than pursue the cities mainstream clubs. Doug D now chose the Underground. Laying down classic performances @local poetry hot spots. Sparking his turntable talents over MC's, Singers, and finally fully incorporated into a live band, the "Urban Abstract."
(96-99) Placed him in front of college campuses, live music venues, and private parties.
It also took him back up North. Providing Showcase appearances @The Quest (99,00).
During the summer of 00' he reclaimed residency. Returning to NC that fall.
The Band:
(00, 01) "Urban Abstract" released its 1" CD the fall of 00'. Opened for a few major artists. Then performed locally the first half of 01'. At that time the versatile ~ Doug D opted to become a "feature" artist for the band (01') and consultant. Currently producing mix CD's, providing consultation for various underground artists and spinning mobile gigs. DJ Doug D is truly the world traveler still spinning...
