Marvin Gaye once sung "music is my heart and soul - more precious than anything I know." The same rings true for G.I who puts his heart and soul behind the turntables.
Born in Miami and raised in New York during a time when hip-hop was more about skills and less about commercialism. G.I grew up listening to the sounds of such legendary D.J's as "D.J Red Alert", "Kid Capri" and "Ron G" Drawing inspiration from them his young ears learned to pick apart beats and styles.
At 15, G.I decided to save his money and bought some equipment of his own -actually "two ol'skool turntables, a mixer and an old guitar amp as a speaker" but that's all this young mix kid needed at the time. He played his first gig for a party at his high school. G.I gassed his self up so much to his classmates, but little did anyone know he only had a single crate of records and no experience. The party was wack, but G.I started over honing his craft day and night, non-stop.
Ironically few years later the school hosted a reunion and as fate would have it- G.I ended up playing again; this time he was ready and kept the crowd moving all night. He credits some of that party's success to his wicked blend of Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall " and Big Daddy Kane's "Set It Off". And that was just a sample of his unlimited skills.
Over the years G.I has paid plenty of dues, hustling DJ gigs whenever and wherever he could; eventually putting together mix tapes that would sell abroad--reaching eager hip hop fans as far away as Germany, Hawaii, Canada and Japan. During 1999, G.I became an official member and DJ for the chart topping rap group "Sporty Thievz". A far ride from his early days, G.I has now become an experienced and acclaimed D.J headlining at top clubs throughout Germany and Holland in places like Koln, Aachen & Krefield. He's linked up with other hot DJ's and helped develop Germany's #1 d.j crew for urban music - "The X-Men Squad".
G.I has had the opportunity to be a part of many tours, including
A 4-month "No Pigeons" tour with the "Sporty Thievz" that extended as far as Hawaii. He has also completed many solo DJ tours around the globe and has had the distinct privilege to perform on many American television show's such as "Jenny Jones", "Ricky Lake" and BET's "Teen Summit".
Flowing to his own beat; G.I has taken his career to another level making guest appearances on various radio shows across the country and internationally. G.I now keeps busy with his own radio show on WRCM Manhattan College Radio in NYC. And is currently featured at 4 different club locations weekly in N.Y. city. G.I also continues hooking up blazin' CD's every month for his global audience and writes a monthly record review columns for the hip hop editorial Four Korners Newspaper.
