Both Suraiya and Shiva are representatives of the Middle-Eastern Dance Community in Sydney, Australia. Recently they have began a great new venture, one which is as unique as it is breathtaking. They are in fact Australia's ONLY male & female performing duo.
At the age of 23, Shiva is a self taught Arabic Dancer, who has been performing professionally since 1998. He has gained a rich experience in dancing at a wide array of Restaurants, Festivals, Weddings and Functions. Shiva adopts his traditional style with an energetic contemporary flair, assimilating Arabic, Spanish and African styles. 2001 brought him from Melbourne to Sydney to evolve his career in dance. He presently performs on a weekly basis and also teaches from Beginners to Advanced classes. Being a male Bellydancer is rare and is often seen as a great feat to be able to perform 'Raks Shaki' or Oriental Dance, thus Shiva finds himself as Australia's only male performing this art form.
Suraiya started dancing in the creative environs of Adelaide in 1999 and moved to Sydney by invitation to pursue her dancing career. Since this time she has had the pleasure of performing professionally for audiences throughout Sydney and N.S.W, at Restaurants, Festivals, Functions and Weddings, were she is well sort after. Suraiya has the grace of a ballerina together with a fiery passion, fusing traditional Raks Shaki with Spanish, African and Gypsy influences from her Caribbean heritage. With this Suraiya has adapted a unique style that will leave you enchanted and mesmerized. Suraiya is also teaching classes from Beginners to Advanced.
After meeting several times, they had an opportunity to dance together and discovered that they shared a burning desire for the art form and music, with this, their styles blended into an explosive and passionate translation. The "Dynamic Duo", as they are often called on as, are currently thrilling audiences around Sydney and also teaching statewide. Due to their popularity, as the only Male and Female duo and with such a high standard of technique, which they aim to perfect in every show, they are inundated with offers to perform. Shiva and Suraiya are available for contract work, both locally and internationally. Their present aim is to move overseas and perform for audiences around the world.
